LANAP® periodontal regeneration is the flagship of our laser dentistry program. Using the Periolase MVP-7 — the only FDA-cleared laser for LANAP® — we treat advanced gum disease without cutting or suturing. The laser targets diseased tissue and bacteria precisely, leaving healthy tissue untouched. More significantly, LANAP® stimulates regeneration of the bone and connective tissue around the tooth — an outcome traditional surgery cannot achieve. This is a true regenerative procedure, not just a way to manage existing disease. The full-mouth LANAP® protocol is typically completed in two appointments on separate days, covering the upper and lower arches respectively.

For patients who have had dental implants that are showing signs of peri-implantitis — infection and bone loss around the implant — our LAPIP peri-implantitis treatment uses the same laser protocol adapted for the implant surface and surrounding tissue. LAPIP can often save an implant that would otherwise need to be removed — a significant difference in outcome given the cost and recovery involved in implant removal and replacement.

For cosmetic gum procedures, our Fotona laser handles two common concerns with minimal recovery. Laser gum bleaching and depigmentation removes brown or dark spots from gum tissue caused by melanin pigmentation — common in patients of Mediterranean, South Asian, and Eastern European descent — and produces a uniform, pink gum tone. The procedure is typically completed in one visit with minimal discomfort. Gummy smile reduction and gum recontouring uses the laser to sculpt the gum line, revealing more of the tooth and creating a more balanced smile proportion. The precision of the laser allows a level of contouring that's difficult to achieve with traditional tissue surgery.

Laser frenectomy is one of the most immediately impactful procedures we perform. A frenum is a band of connective tissue that anchors the tongue to the floor of the mouth (lingual frenum) or the upper lip to the gum between the front teeth (labial frenum). When a frenum is too tight or too short — a condition called tongue-tie (ankyloglossia) or lip-tie — it restricts movement in ways that affect nursing in infants, speech development in children, orthodontic outcomes in adolescents, and comfort and function in adults. Traditional frenectomy uses a scalpel or scissors — effective, but involving bleeding, sutures, and a recovery that makes the procedure feel significant. Laser frenectomy using the Fotona laser vaporizes the frenum tissue precisely, with minimal bleeding (the laser seals as it cuts), no sutures required in most cases, and recovery that most patients describe as mild soreness for one to two days. For infants with nursing difficulties due to tongue-tie, the procedure takes a matter of minutes and the baby can typically nurse immediately afterward. For older children and adults, the procedure is performed under local anesthesia and is often completed before the local has fully worn off. Post-procedure stretching exercises are provided to prevent reattachment during healing. We see frenectomy patients of all ages — from newborns referred by lactation consultants to adults whose tongue-tie was never addressed and is causing speech, dental, or airway concerns.
